Costa Rica Explorer Tour Itinerary

DAY 01: SAN JOSÉ
Airport greeting by bilingual guide and private transport for transfer to the Hotel Grano de  Oro in San José. Cultural tour of San José if you flight arrival schedule permits.
DAY 02: POAS VOLCANO – BOSQUE DE PAZ
Breakfast at hotel and private transfer with your naturalist guide north through the lush mountains of the central valley to the active Volcano Poás National Park for a visit to the crater before the crowds arrive. Continue to the 3,000 acre private cloud forest reserve of Bosque de Paz on the continental divide. This private nature park is an important biological corridor that connects the Poás Volcano and Juan Castro Blanco National Parks. Lodging in Jr. Suite at the reserve’s rustic, but well appointed and very exclusive lodge.
DAY 03: BOSQUE DE PAZ - PRIVATE CLOUD FOREST RESERVE
Breakfast at hotel and hiking with your private naturalist guide on some of the 22 km of trails that exist in this massive private cloud forest reserve. Excellent bird watching and numerous rare species are to be seen in this forest. Lodging in Jr. Suite.
DAY 04: BOSQUE DE PAZ - ARENAL VOLCANO
Breakfast at hotel and private transfer with your naturalist guide north through the lush mountains of the central valley to the active Volcano Arenal, one of Latin America’s most spectacular volcanoes. Opportunities for interesting stops in route to enjoy the area you’re your guide. Lodging at Arenal Observatory Lodge with an up close view to the mighty Arenal Volcano.
DAY 05: ARENAL VOLCANO
Breakfast at hotel and private transfer with your naturalist guide to the unique hanging bridges project for a nature walk with great views to the Arenal Volcano or a hike up the ancient cone of the extinct Chato Volcano to its hidden crater lake. Return for afternoon at leisure, where if the weather cooperates, one of the great natural theatres in the world, the erupting summit of the Arenal Volcano, provides a unique spectacle viewers don’t soon forget. Lodging at the Arenal Observatory Lodge.
DAY 06: ARENAL VOLCANO – MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST  
Breakfast at hotel and morning transfer with your guide to Lake Arenal for a boat ride across Costa Rica’s largest lake and then the ride up into the mountains to the world renowned cloud forest of Monteverde for check-in to the exclusive and very personal Trapp Family Lodge.
DAY 07: MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST RESERVE
Breakfast at hotel and early morning hiking in the Monteverde reserve with your private naturalist guide before the crowds arrive. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the great mountain air and peace of the forest, or an additional nature walk with your guide at the Santa Elena Nature Reserve. Lodging in Jr. Suite at Hotel Trapp Family Lodge.
DAY 08: MONTEVERDE – MANUEL ANTONIO BEACH
Breakfast at hotel and private transfer with your English speaking tour guide to the exclusive beach hotel just outside Manuel Antonio National Park, Arenas del Mar Beach and Nature Resort located right on a private cove just north of the national park. After check-in your private naturalist guide will leave you on your own to enjoy 5 relaxing nights of ocean, beach and tropical nature and one of the finest rain forest beach hotels in the world.
DAYS 09-12: MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK
Breakfast and lodging at Arenas del Mar, with access to two separate beaches, swimming pools and great tropical nature.
DAY 13: MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK – SAN JOSÉ
Breakfast at hotel and late morning transfer from sea level up into the mountains that wrap San Jose, a beautiful rural journey and chance to use a seldom traveled route to the capital. Check-in to the classy Hotel Grano de Oro to enjoy your final night in the heart of San José.
DAY 14: SAN JOSÉ
Breakfast at hotel. Private transfer to airport for flight home.
